Why I Became a Therapist

From a young age, I’ve always had a heart of stewardship. As I matriculated through school I’ve given time to help others in need and be present when someone needs to talk things out, or just lend a helping hand. This desire of stewardship became a lifelong passion for helping others obtain understanding and success in life goals, life situations, and relationships. It has shaped my work in the field of mental health, as well as my interest in marriage and family counseling.

I am especially passionate about providing counseling with a purpose, along with meaningful connections that will create guidance by helping clients gain a sense of clarity and work toward a more fulfilling goal and lifestyle.

In my role as an intern, under the supervision of Anna Thomison (MS, LMFT-S), I am focused

on expanding my clinical skillset and knowledge by applying collaborative and solution based

practices to support individuals and families in their unique mental health journeys.

My approach is rooted in empathy and respect for each person’s unique story. In my own personal experience, I have faced the loss of a spouse and I delt with having a parent

with depression and thoughts of suicidal ideation. As a former educator, I’ve experienced young minds dealing with mental health issues and overstimulation. These experiences convinced me to continue exploring the world of counseling and helped, not only shape my understanding of mental health, but also how I show up as a counselor with compassion, authenticity, and appreciation for the strength it takes to seek support.

I believe in the importance of mental health care as a universal need. I am honored and thrilled to walk alongside others as we explore self-discovery, healing, and growth.

Who I am and How I Practice

I am multiracial of Native American, White, Mexican, and African descent born and raised in

south central Louisiana. I am a Christian and wife to a wonderful man Jared. I live in Dallas, TX.

I am a former educator 8 years +. I attended Southwestern Christian College (SwCC) where I

majored in History and minored in Music and Art receiving an Associates of Arts degree. While at SwCC, I developed a passion for the arts. My service for giving back to the community as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Terrell, TX and VP of their college program Circle K International helped build life long connections. After graduation, I continued my exploration into family therapy and attended Oklahoma Christian University (OC) where I majored in Family Studies earning my Bachelor’s Degree and later continued to pursue my Master’s Degree.

I am currently a graduate student at Abilene Christian University (ACU) earning my master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy, aiming to become a licensed professional therapist. I am on the road to counseling individuals, couples, and families. I am also interested in counseling our youth.

I seek to apply values into my internship at Collaborative Solutions Counseling. I plan to help

clients develop a healthy lifestyle and address emotional or psychological issues from specific

theoretical approaches.

Areas of Particular Expertise

While I will be specializing in marriage and family counseling upon graduation, I am open to

guiding  individuals and youth on their mental health journeys. Further in the internship, I plan to focus on couples and family therapy,

I aim to become specialized in working with individuals from all walks of life, couples, individuals with disabilities, youth, and families.
