Masa Alneser Marriage and Family Therapy Intern

Why I Became a Therapist

I have always been interested in understanding people and the experiences that shape their relationships and emotional well-being. Before pursuing therapy, I originally planned to become a family lawyer because I wanted to help individuals and families during difficult times. However, after working as a family law paralegal, I realized I felt more drawn toward helping people emotionally and relationally rather than through the legal system alone.

That experience showed me how deeply family conflict, stress, and life transitions can affect individuals, couples, and children. Over time, it led me toward the field of Marriage and Family Therapy and strengthened my passion for helping others feel heard, supported, and understood.

As a Marriage and Family Therapy intern under the supervision of Anna Thomison, I continue to grow my clinical skills while supporting clients from a relational and systemic perspective. I believe therapy can be a safe space for healing, growth, and meaningful change.

Who I am and How I Practice

I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Abilene Christian University with the goal of becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, collaboration, and creating a supportive environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves without judgment. I believe every person’s experiences and relationships play an important role in their emotional well-being, and I strive to help clients better understand themselves, improve communication, and strengthen their relationships.

I value building genuine therapeutic connections and helping clients feel supported throughout their healing journey.

Areas of Particular Expertise

I have a strong interest in working with individuals, couples, adolescents, children, and families. I am especially passionate about helping clients navigate relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, family conflict, communication struggles, stress, and major life transitions.

I also have a growing interest in couples counseling and helping families create healthier emotional connections and communication patterns while providing a safe and welcoming space for clients from diverse backgrounds.
